[Literal extract from the "Heraldo Filipino" of Sunday March 26th, 1899.]

FRUSTRATED ADVANCE OF THE ENEMY.

Yesterday morning at dawn the enemy commenced a general attack against our lines around Manila, evidently with the intention of invading the province of Bulacan and taking the capital of the Republic. The fighting was kept up until well along into the night. The enemy's casualties are estimated at 28,000, this as the result of yesterday's battle which lasted all day.

We are able to give our readers the following additional news:

General Pio del Pilar's column successfully resisted the enemy in the Pasig district. He is now besieging the American forces who fled to the town of Pasig and have entrenched themselves in the church and convent.

At Tinajeros, Tullahan, Novaliches, San Francisco del Monte and Mariquina the Americans have also been unsuccessful. The only place where they were victorious was at Santa Quiteria which our troops abandoned after causing numerous casualties to the enemy.

The American casualties are estimated at 5,000. Those of last night in the 4th Zone were over 3,000. Our casualties are not over 300.
