PENDLETON, OCTOBER 10, 1902

FORT D. A. RUSSELL, WYO., October 10, 1902.

The JUDGE-ADVOCATE-GENERAL, U. S. ARMY, Washington, D. C.

SIR: In reference to your communication of the 6th instant, I have the honor to inform you that I have no knowledge concerning the death of one Father Augustine de la Pena, in the town of Banate, island of Panay, during the month of December, 1902.

Father Augustine was a resident of the town of Molo and was reputed to be a leader of the insurgent party of the island. He was a man of influence among the natives, and was believed to use his influence to oppose the United States forces, while living within their lines and under the protection of the American Government.

Very respectfully,

HARRIS PENDLETON, Jr.,
First Lieutenant, Eighteenth U. S. Infantry.

Respectfully returned to the Judge-Advocate-General.

I know nothing of the case in question, nor have I ever been a witness to the so-called "water cure."
