MASON TO DAVIS, OCTOBER 14, 1902
FORT HOWARD, MD., October 14, 1902.
Gen. Geo. B. DAVIS,
Judge-Advocate-General, Washington, D. C.
SIR: In answer to your communication of the 6th instant, referring to the matter of "Father Augustine " I have the honor to state that personally I know nothing about his case or about any unauthorized forms of punishment administered to natives of the islands.
I did, of course, hear rumors about Father Augustine and about the "water cure," but aside from that I know nothing about either.
Respectfully,
ALFRED M. MASON,
Second Lieutenant, Artillery Corps,
Late First Lieutenant Twenty-sixth Infantry, U. S. Volunteers.
