    FROM THE LETTER OF SGT. SMITH OF E 18TH US INF, DATED JARO DECEMBER 2 1899

    "The rapid fire poured into their ranks by our men at the river ford in our second fight after leaving Jaro was the most terrific I ever heard. A Spanish lieutenant serving with the 'gugus,' was killed there. The insurgent strength was estimated at that place at 2,000 but we had no trouble in dispersing them."

    FROM JUN MARDUQUIO AND MARIA ELOISE MARDUQUIO

    Juan Ledesma Magallon was a native of Barrio Tiring, Cabatuan, Iloilo. His parents were Marcelo Magallon of Cabatuan and Concepcion Ledesma of Tigbauan.

    The children of Marcelo Magallon and Concepcion Ledesma, and their birth dates, were:
    1. Miguel - 8 Mayo 1867;

    3. Simplecio- 2 mar 1872;

    8. Gervacia- 9 sept 1886;
    9. Bartolume- 30 jul 1889;
    10. Sotera- 22 apr 1893

    Of the 10 brothers and sisters, only 4 have descendants, Vicenta, Maria, Gervacia and Sotera. Bartolume got married but had no children. The rest died at a young age except for Juan.

    Vicenta Magallon married to a certain Griņo of Guihaman. Her descendants are in Guihaman,Leganes

    Maria Magallon married to certain Jaca and her descendants are in Jaro.

    Gervacia Magallon married to Emilio Canilla from Manguna Cabatuan and we have connections with them.

    Sotera Magallon married to Pedro Mardoquio, and that is our lineage.

    Two sisters of Juan Magallon are buried in the Cabatuan Cemetery, Sotera and Gervacia.

    Sotera was the youngest. She was about 6 when Juan was killed. According to Sotera, as told by her mother Concepcion, Juan was killed on the day of his wedding. He was buried immediately.

    If Juan was mistaken as a Spanish officer, it was probably because his mother Concepcion was meztiza Spanish-Filipina. Concepcion's mother was Trinidad Lopez de Villasenor.
